The Chilbolton Facility for Atmospheric and Radio Research in Hampshire offers a unique set of active and passive instruments for measuring clouds and precipitation. It is home to the world's largest steerable meteorological radar (the 3 GHz CAMRa radar), which has full doppler and dual-polarisation capability; the 25-metre dish allows a high sensitivity and a narrow beam. The observatory also operates a large number of other instruments, many of which operate round the clock:

• 1.5 µm Doppler lidar
• 35 GHz Doppler cloud radar
• 905 nm Ceilometer lidar
• Microwave radiometers to estimate LWP and WVP
• 355nm polarisation lidar

Instruments operated on case by case basis:

• 94 GHz Doppler cloud radar
• 3 GHz dual-polarisation Doppler radar on the 25m dish
• 1275 MHz 'ACROBAT' clear-air radar on the 25m dish
• 3 GHz 'VIPER' radar (3m dish, Doppler+LDR)
• UV Raman lidar

There are also a variety of other instruments including raingauges and Meteorological sensors.
